On 20 September 2003, five members of the NPCC Alumni represented in the above competition under the invitation events against 5 other uniform group namely NCC, NPCC HQ, Singapore Red Cross, Singapore Scout Association and CCAB. Being the defending champion, we had expected the Scout, NPCC HQ and the CCAB teams to be our strong competitors vying for the Tan Puay Kern Challenge Trophy as they all had very good shooters.

During the course of the shoot on the NRA targets where a possibility of 100 points could be scored, one of our top shooter, Tan Sim Kiat had his revolver jammed with 3 rounds of his bullet not shot when the time was up.

The range officer confiscated the 3 rounds, thus a possible loss of 30 points, which could mean a lot to us. We were thus a little worried having seen the relatively high scores of the other teams.

However, at the end of the competition, with the good marksmanship of all our shooters, we managed to clinch top again retaining the coveted Tan Puay Kern Challenge Trophy for the second year running. The alumni had scored a total score of 653 out of 800 points, which is the highest even compared to all of the other categories of the whole competition. Second position was the NPCC HQ team with 604 points and third was the CCAB team with 593 points. Scouts was a close fourth with 586 points.

Thus the NPCC Alumni has a strong shooting team that all can reckon with. We will strive to do well again for next year - to retain the Challenge Trophy for good.
